For as long as I can remember Orchard Towers and the clubs there have always been around. It seem everyone both men and women know of the action that happen on the flour floor for clubs and in Singapore it has become acceptable for it’s locations. In some ways it’s own landmark. People from all over the world got to OT for both pleasure and just to see if the stories are true. Top Ten Disco which was the biggest place moved out of OT in Dec 2005 and relocated to a new location. Many wondered why this happen since the disco always did well and wasn’t hurting for business.
In my day I spent a lot of time in the towers visiting the clubs and the girls and had many a great night there either alone (which wasn’t for long) or in the company of some friendly lady or ladies. OT is one of those places you feel will always be around.
Well maybe it will be or maybe not! The other day I was wondering why Top Ten moved? There was no need to move, they had a strong following and many would return to the Disco when they returned to Singapore, so why move and have to be found all over again. It just didn’t make sense to me.
Then I thought some more about what is going on in Singapore and it started to make a bit more sense to me. Being located on the main shopping road in the country has never been a problem. But now with 2 big casinos coming in could there be a plan to clean up the towers and make it more on line with the other malls on the road. Could this be the reason Top Ten move early? I don’t know but let us look at it a bit closer.
With casinos the country will see a large influx of tourist over and above current yearly numbers. It is estimated that 25% more will be the number, in 2005 7 million visited Singapore with a population of only 4 million.
When you have big money in town, it will draw the working girl to the area to make they killing on the high rollers.
As it is planned now Singaporeans will have to pay a yearly or daily fee to enter the casinos. This was put in place so people would not spend their life earning or be come addicted to going the casinos since the daily rate is 100 dollars to enter.
But for visitors that is not the case, although plans are being set in place to keep out the so called “unwanted working girls.”
So here we have two high class Resort Casinos in a small country and located fairly close to each other which is not a problem but what of all the guys coming in with all this hard cash they plan to spend and the families too? There is only so much you can do at a resort so people will be getting out and site seeing and Orchard Road is one place where many will go. OT is located close to 3 main hotels, the Hilton, Orchard Hotel and the Orchard Parade Hotel, across the street is Hard Rock Café and down the street is Thai Embassy wow what a location, right! All of these locations are not more than a 5 minute walk away.
If you have ever passed by OT between 11pm to 4am you found what seemed to be every taxi in the country parked there waiting for customers and even some offering you girls too. When the towers start to close; you’ll find the girl out side trying to get that last customer to be with along with the He-She doing the same. Drunk men staggering back home or to their hotels with or with out some one and even some getting in to fights. If you’re a good looking lady passing by the chances of some guy approaching you and asking you for a date is also very high, so not to appealing to the ladies that are in the country for vacation returning from a night club like Bar None or China Black which are within walking distance of the above mentioned hotels.
Do I think this is the image the Singapore government what to give the world of its country? I dot think so!! What I think is going to happen over the next 2 to 3 years is the gradually closing of the kind of clubs that are there in O T now until it is a place that you would be proud to take you mother in.
Will the hookers be gone? No, they will just be spread out over a large area so they don’t stand out so much. Singapore knows you can not get ride of the hookers. You just can’t do it and to try would not be cost effective. But can they break them up, sure they can. By doing this it solves several problems for the government. First it make Orchard Road a much more respectable place and safer for the women walking on the street in the area. Second it gives the impression that Singapore is a decent place to be and people will want to return more often. And third, there will be no place for the girls to centralize their activities making it easy for the guys to find them in large numbers. So now mister money bags can not go walking in to the resort with 4 girls and upset the guest or the hotel.
This is why I fear the end of Orchard Towers as we now know it. It’s a matter of time either way you look at it.
So how would they close the clubs in OT? A lost more raids, Vice being in the clubs busting the girls and the guys. Over time the girls will move on to safer clubs to work out of so business will drop, rent will go up and they will be forced to close or at least change the way they do business.
It’s a sad story I know but in time everything good get fucked up some how and soon it will be the towers turn to fall in inline with the other malls and become a decent mall to visit in Singapore!
But this is just my opinion, hope I’m wrong!

If you think the ploice don’t know what gose on in every club and pub in Singapore then you are more clueless then your opening statement. I write what everyone knows but dont want to talk about for some reason. If you want to work in that industry that is up to you, move to Geylang, make your money and go home happy.
well the police do know wats goes on around in clubs,and they always try to close one eye not two if things are more or less under control and not out of hand,Now i regularly patronise orchard towers and find all kind of internatonal guests around as it has been widely published worldwide as a entertainment outlet not to miss.Now Spore needs a centralised place for such activities for the good of the economy and foreign spending. Now when you talk about Geylang its all the KTV Karoake shit which foreigners really tend to avoid,and moreover its catered more for the chinese lingo, so i hope you will be more careful and not pass comments which not only be taken as an offense by pub operators but also things that could harm the foreign spending with your uncalled remarks for places to be raided. Interesting statement and thanks for your point of view and i’ll keep what you siad in mind but at the same time yo uhave to understand me and the way I write. i write about what is out there and what is going that most dont touch. i dont do it to offend anyone or to break any rice bowls but it the same time if you play with fire you will get burned. so if a club is working on the grey area that is on them not me. wel we are not saying that one player can cause more raids but by writing and sharing with uncalled remarks it can contribute to more raids occurring,wel when we play with fire we get burnt,but let nature take its cause and not light the fire for someone to get burnt,you know what goes round comes around,thats karma,not everyone has the guts to take risks and get burnt,so lets give them the respect for what they are doing,cause u know wat,we are no saints ,preachers or god. Warren buddy your remarks regarding the Orchard Towers have changed with time. I’ve no idea as to what made you think the normal girls passing by OT would feel threatened? Singapore my dear is a country where ladies feel more secured by the law enforcement authorities as and when compared to men. A single scream of any lady outside Orchard Towers would definitely attract the police attention and the entire problem would be solved in no time… I have seen such incidents happening in Singapore and the Singaporean law enforcement authorities are very good in their handling of such situations. Not even a foreigner would want to visit the Changi prison dude.
Coming to taking your mother to Orchard Towers; you are right there but then I would suggest all sons to take their mothers during the day time when they can get to order tailor made clothing and purchase the latest cameras and other digital instruments. By the way a mother walking down the Lorrong streets in Geylang district would again not at all feel threatened by the lust hungry consumers roaming around the entire alley. You’re living in Singapore where such thoughts are taboo.
Speaking of prostitution you need to consider the country being a neighbour to countries like Philipines and Thailand where its all legal all the way. Therefore it had to be legal in certain designated areas in Singapore as well. After all if we are speak of mongering around the girls in OT are far better than those in Geylang, Joo Chait Road, Desrek Road and other places.
I say if the law enforcement authorities have closed one eye then so should you. After all it keeps the criminal level at the least minimum.
wel waren i was reading carefully through your statements on Orchard Towers and your mentioning that it would not serve as a good image to the high flying casino gamblers. Now my friend correct me if im wrong but the 3 main vices in life is drinking,womenising,and gambling which one way or another usually leads to the downfall of successful man. Now gambling happens to be one of the most dangerous vices around and i dont see the logic of you trying to protect these people from Orchard Towers when it is just as dangerous or a more serious vice. sorry i forgot,I am amazed and shock ridden that you have also indicated the location of the Thai Embassy as one of the reasons for your objection of OT being around. Maybe you should pay visits to Thailand more often to get a better view of things happening there.Probably the people at the Thai Emabassy will suggest to build another OT a bit closer to them,maybe 3 minutes instead of 5.And being a pub hoper yourself I think you should never want to bring your mother or wife to OT as well cause someone from Candid Camera might pop up on you and say Hey Warren “I had a good time with you last night,can we do it again tonight!”.
There seems to be some confusion about my artical on the future of OT. This is just my own opinion of what could happen. I have no problems with OT, the bars, the girls or anything else there. I love it and think there should be more places like it in SG. I have taken my wife there serveal times and other female friends too who live in SG and yes if my mothers ever comes i have no problem taking her there too. A man has to know his limiations and I know mine which will be differetn them others. And if you understand the towers and the girls you never have to worry about some one coming up to if they see you with a women who looks local, these girls are pretty smart so bring on the cameras, no problem. hell i take pictures there all the time with the girls.

I am business owner, my home is in Malibu Ca. USA. I lived in Singapore for 4 years on a business contract from 99 to Feb 04. I was In KL and Jakarta often and hit Thailand for weeks at a time. In my view there is no place on the planet and I have travel the world, Costa Rica, Europe, China, everywahere, there is no place better than Orchard Towers. I must have went there Hundreds of times, made friends with many of the girls…I was so bad at changeing girls all the time, the called me their Butterfly.. Those girls are the most fun, easy to get along with, never dissapoint… you can dance the night away, go home have a great time in bed..never did I meet a girl who made me feel like it was all business..Thats what I liked about about them, and I never was asked to pay up front I always tipped or gifted them some cash in the morning. Since many if not thousands of visitors to Singapore and to the towers feel this way about the towers from all over the world.. I doubt very much it will ever be closed..to much money pours through for that to ever happen… The casinos will get a piece of the action form the Club owners and every one will be happy.
In Kl I used to hang at the Beach Club..the girls were bitchy.. aways about the money and it just sorta was a lesser experience..although the Health Clubs In Malaysia are not bad. Jakarta was pretty good I like the Bat Cave.. I always had a good time there and the girls were great..top performers, only once did I get a girl who was not to happy about her work. Thats another thing about the girls at OT,, They seem happy, they have a good time and make you feel like well a GFE..so any way If you are ever in South East Asia.. catch a flight to Singapore..go to OT..you will be glad you did..
@Zeeshan this might be a technicality, but prostitution is *not* legal in Thailand. That it happens, that it is in your face, I am not disputing that, but it is not legal. And I believe the same is the case with the Philippines, and for sure with Indonesia. Singapore is one of the few countries in the area where it is legal.

I had a brief stop over and went out for a drink and couple of nice guys pointed me to the towers, and let me say I almost missed my flight!
And now a stopover in S’pore will now be mandatory on ALL my future trips.

Thanks for the info above. I’ve travelled around the world as well and i’d have to agree that OT is the best around. The service is easy and affordable without having to waste a night trying to figure it out. I do agree with your comments and I do hope we are both wrong. Casino’s will attract more people which will in turn attract more working girls. A good example are casino’s in Panama. Working girls are right in the casino’s or bars close by. In no way is Panama comparible to SIN though. The girls and bars and just set up different and the police really give you a hard time if they want “lunch money”. The great thing about SIN is that there is virtually no or little corruption. Police don’t pull you over hoping for a bribe unlike Panama. It’s hard to even leave a tip for service because they think that tipping is a form of corruption!

first thing first, i would like to share my point of view, that OT will still surive even after those casinos opened. the people who visit the casinos would be those higher class peeps who can affort the entrance and losing few digits of their cash in their bill fold. they would not really go for freelancers who tends to approach them, instead they can even affort expensive social escorts for them to bonk. thus even u see flow of girls going there to try their luck, i would say this trend would not last long.
OT right now as what we can see, alot of foreigners… but do we see even more locals patronizing there as well? im sure those pubs/clubs at OT are being survived by their own loyal followers/supporters and it would be stupid enough to close shop there and move to the spots near the casinos. dun they feel its bad to raise the price of their alcohol just becoz its located near the casinos?
ive been a regular at OT not long ago, as i used to patronise places like st james ( with bunch of friends ) and duxton hill ( when alone drinking ). i know those pubs really depends alot on us, as their supporters, to keep their pubs alive.
and yes, i do agree with those older post i read up, we see police patrol around OT, basically their job is to assist foreigners when they are in some sort of troubles, and to prevent fights and etc … they know whats going on in OT but their duty doesnt permit them to stop all those activities. so i would say at least there is some ‘allowance’ to have our sort of activities in OT in inactive.

Roach - You have some very good point there about the Towers and casinos that are coming and don’t worry about me flaming you as I what to get peoples opinions here. I give my own thoughts on how I see things and what I think and by no means think i am completely right all the time.
Understanding Singapore and how things work here is kind of funny sometimes so I try to look at what is happening now and where it can lead. So I am going off of “Best guest” on some times like OT.
On the issue of girls in the casinos, well I think they (the girls) can do pretty there. While escorts are more discrete and great for some one looking for, lets say a European women or local girl would be the way to go for sure but at S$500+ and hour WFT when you can get a Thia girls for half the price for the entire night and still the time of you life if not better then with an escort!
But hey to each his own I say, if you have the money why not?

As we look to today, OT is very empty after a few raids. It is not fun anymore, Ipenama was normal 80% girls… now is it 50% or even less. Girls outside are scared to talk to any man. Joo Chiat is totally history and other famous pickup places are frequently visited by the police.
One of the tenants told me that the Government want to close all bars in Singapore at 3 AM so that everyone is forced has to visit the casinos!!!! If that was really the issue than why are not the regular nightlife venue owners complaining to the Government. Places at Clarke Quay, Zouk and St.James will come in serious problems. Whatever they will try, most Singaporeans will not visit these casinos at all…. I don’t believe this rumour at all!
The police is not stupid and they know they never can clean up all the hookers. Other risk is when you close down OT, the hookers will spread out themselves over various places and spots…. and that will be harder for the police to control. It is much smarter, practical, easier and cheaper to have them all in one big place… OT! You close one eye but you still have your eyes wide open to see what is going on… and you are able to control it!
When I came a few months ago at OT, it was packed! Full of girls, easy for the man to pick out but hard for the girls to work with so much competition. To be honest, it was a little too much! I think that the police shares the same opinion and was it again time to show their stripes to prevent it will grow totally out of control.
Especially when you have all the casinos open and the girls can’t find any man, they will go naturally looking for other sources…. Now is the competition not so hard anymore and the girls will stay at OT as they know it is the middle point of bar girls. Of course you will still get some girls who will swap over to the casinos, but at least not so much of them. Now the security at the casinos have more playground to learn the tricks of these girls and how to keep them out…. so when the groups of girls coming back, they are better trained and prepared to them to keep them out!
Casinos dont want these girls inside, and I cant understand that! That is just business, they want that their clients loose their money with gambling and not leaving the place with a cheap chick!!
On the other side they have to keep the nighlife with these chicks atleast alive at one spot, not everyone is interested to visit these stupid casinos but just want to have fun with some babes and booz… they spend thousands of dollars each night too… some man stay a few days longer in Singapore just to have fun with these girls… that is extra income!

The country of Singapore as a whole is a business and the government is the management, so any invsetment they make they want to go over all and they don’t want anything to stain the image of the company that could cost them to take a lost.
Clarke is safe, the government put a lot of money in the place so dont worry about there, the others could be affect (MAYBE) but i don’t so. the casinos can only hold so many people and really how many people are out after 3am anyway? there are a lot more small pubs then big clubs here and that is where most go because it is cheaper to party at and most of them close by 2am anyway.
as for the OT, when they shut down the street action there the girls had to move out and they did, right to orchard road, and chinatown that i know of. so a few back back the police did the raid (see the news section) to grabbed a 158 girls. I was in OT on Sunday night (28 Feb) and yeah it was pretty quiet in there. but this happens there. i didn’t see many guys there either that night.
to make it look good the police have to enforce the law, we understand that. there are place to go to get girls (legal) but only open from 2pm to 2am. needs to be 24 hours, what they need do is turn all the hotel s in the geylang area in to brothels to handle more girls. wow that would be great!! or give the working girls coming in a “hooker pass”, get her to medical for a check (just like the girl in thw house) and let her freelance for a fee. if you are going to have postitution legal in the country why restrict it to only a few areas since it is alrerdy everywhere in the country now, WFT!!
