To understand the clubbing in Singapore you have to look at the big picture to see it clearly.

Another thing you need to understand is the life style and economic of the country. When you see a place with only a population for just over 4 million that is not a lot of people when you brake it down but those that will go clubbing then figure in the cost of clubbing, age restrictions in the discos and other factors the numbers get really small where in Singapore you have over 1,400 places to go drinking, not including coffee shops in the neighborhoods.

So lets look at the population first, you have the Chinese-Singaporean who make up the larges number of the population so any club you to you will see plenty of them having a good time, the Malays the second larges group you mostly find the younger people between the ages of 18 to 28 after that the numbers of clubbers drop off fast that go clubbing. The reason for this drop is due to the fast that many are Muslim and they are not allowed to drink, so once they start to settle down and get married, which they do a younger ages then the Chinese, the clubbing scene goes out the window since they are now more deeply rooted in there religion. Next we have the Indians the smallest number in the population. Their party habits are pretty much the same as the Chinese but since their numbers are so small it seems as if there are not many out there as you start to get up in ages plus they also tend to get married before the Chinese in Singapore. So here we have the Chinese being the last group getting married age wise so this keeps them in the clubs for more years then others.

The work force:

If you plan to party in Singapore for a night and have a really great time it is going to cost you big bucks. Most of the clubs that charge a cover also add 1 or 2 drinks with that cover so you really are not paying to enter the club but more like paying to be in the club for a least the length of the drink, once they get you inside chances are you will stick around for a while and spend more money anyways.
Most places will sell bottles of liquor from $99 to $250 depending on what you order. Add in drinks for your lady friends if they are not drinking the same as you and there is a $300 night easy. Now if you go out once a week that comes up to $1,200 a month, not cheap right? But at the same time understand this singles in Singapore live at home so there is no real charge for housing which is a big savings, to have a credit card you need to make at least $2,500 to qualify, most items bought in Singapore are paid by cash not checks so no bad checks going around.

So let us say you can not afford the discos or large night clubs, ok, and then you have the bars to visit. Prices are a bit lower, happy hour prices save you a lot too. In the bars there seems to be 2 different groups, the happy hours crowd they will leave shortly after and the late night crowd who can afford the higher prices for their drinks. Here you will find your working professionals and expats at night during the weekdays and Fridays after work. They gather to relax with friends and unwind for the weeks work. Bars are a great place to start your night off at before moving to the discos which start going good about 10 or 11pm. If you are a moderate drinker you can get way with spending under S$100 for your own drinks.

The next level are the pubs, smaller in size and cheaper in price, some pubs have mugs of beers for as low as S$5. Pubs are more for locals then anyone else but depending on the location you will find Expats in them also. Much like the bars are for the Expats the pubs are for the locals. In The Long Bar at Raffles hotel a jug of Tiger beer will cost you S$50 while in your pub the same jug can cost as low as S$20. So that moderate drinker can get away with spending only S$50 for their night of fun.

Age matters:

For the clubbers in Singapore age makes a difference. Most of the larger night clubs have age limits for both men and women like – 23 years of age for men and 18 for women. Why do they have this? Well like most young drinks the guys tend to get into fights and that ruins the party for everyone. A good example of this is the closing off 99% of the pubs on Mohamed Sultan Road back in 2004/2005 because the loud noise and constant fighting that was happening by the younger drinks. So since these area was closed down the youth had to find other place to go drinking like the clubs in Central Mall but again the fighting was the death of the disco there because those with money to spend kept away.

So for the young drinker (18 to 22) pubs, beach bars and some night clubs are their only options to party at.

No matter what kind of night club you go to you will find a wide range of ages so there is set limit to clubbing. You will still find that mid-40 man in the disco or that same man in a pub with friends.

Variety:

There are so many different kind of places to party in Singapore one could never really get tired of it and with all of the places are in the same proximity it makes your night more enjoyable. Once you get into the downtown area everything is about a 10 to 15 minute cab ride a part at the most.
